Clothing with
a story older
than you are.

Marigold & Moth is a curated vintage shop in East Austin. Since 2010 we've sourced, researched, and sold clothing and homewares from the 1940s through the early 1990s. Every piece is photographed, measured (in inches and centimeters), dated, material-verified, and provenanced. We don't stock "vintage-inspired." We don't re-dye, re-cut, or distress. If a piece has been altered, the listing says so and the price reflects it. Our in-person shop at 2148 E 12th Street opens Wed–Sun, 11 AM to 7 PM, and we ship worldwide from the back. Texas Sales Tax #3-10842-4829-6, Austin General Occupancy License #GO-2010-8421.

The two people who run the shop

A buyer, a menswear specialist, and 15 years of driving estate sales across Texas.

Marigold & Moth opened in June 2010 above a café on South Congress, moved to East 12th in 2014, and has been a two-woman operation the whole time. Solène Beaumont-Okafor (head buyer, womenswear 1940–1980, fabric authentication) trained as a textile conservator at the Fashion Institute of Technology (2006), apprenticed at Resurrection Vintage NYC from 2006 to 2009, and has been the primary buyer since we opened. Magdalena Ravenscroft-Delacroix (menswear specialist, denim historian, shop manager) joined in 2013 from a decade at a vintage wholesale operation in Houston. Between them they've authenticated pieces for Austin Film Society costume shops, a major television period drama (2019–2021), and the Bullock Texas State History Museum.

Where we get it · why that matters

We source from estates,
retired dealers, and
exactly zero wholesalers.

68%

Private estate sales

Solène drives to Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and rural Texas estate sales roughly twice a month. Most of our rarest pieces come from estates where the original owner kept clothing carefully for 40+ years. We always identify ourselves as resale buyers and pay fair prices — we're not "pickers."

8%

Direct consignment

We take selective consignment from six long-time customers clearing out personal archives. Consignment is 60/40 (seller/us) with 90-day terms. We decline about 80% of consignment inquiries because the curation bar is the same as buying — if we wouldn't pay for it, we won't sell it.

Sizing in 1952
means nothing
in 2026.

Vintage sizing labels are meaningless to modern bodies. A "size 12" from 1958 runs closer to a modern US 2. We never use vintage numerical sizes as our primary listing. Every piece on our site is photographed on a size S, M, and XL model, and measured flat in inches and centimeters: bust, waist, hips, shoulders, sleeve, and full length. We welcome buyers of every size; we refuse to stock only small-sized vintage and actively source 1X–4X pieces (currently 18% of stock). If you're unsure about fit, email a photo of a garment you know fits you and Magdalena will compare measurements for you by hand.

  • We measure flat, in inches. Bust, waist, hips, shoulders, sleeve, length. Doubled if applicable.
  • We photograph on 3 bodies. Every item on size S, M, and XL models. No cropped shots.
  • 30-day returns, always. Fit, feel, color — no questions. You ship, we refund in 48 hours.
  • Plus sizing is real here. 18% of current stock is 1X–4X. Actively sought, not an afterthought.

We're in East Austin between Chicon and Poquito, across from Franklin Barbecue's parking lot (yes, that one). Street parking is usually fine after 11. Our in-person collection is 3x the size of what's online; we rotate web inventory weekly. Please be gentle with the garments — many are 50+ years old. Trying on is encouraged; there's a proper fitting room with a full-length mirror and no "one-item-at-a-time" nonsense.
