Independently owned · Minneapolis, MN · since 1978 · licensed MN Board of Pharmacy #04-1218

Your pharmacist,
on a first-name basis.

Wetherall & Ng is an independently owned, family-run community pharmacy in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis. We've filled prescriptions for the same families — sometimes three generations of them — since Dr. Harold Wetherall opened our first location on East Lake Street in 1978. No drive-through, no 14-minute phone tree, no pressure to buy laundry soap with your blood-pressure meds. Just four registered pharmacists who know your name, your history, and your dog's name too.

Durable medical equipment

CPAP supplies, diabetic meters and strips, mastectomy forms, compression garments, braces, ostomy supplies. Billed directly to Medicare Part B or your commercial DME benefit. We fit in person — no mail-order box that almost fits.

🤝

Long-term care partnerships

We service 14 assisted-living and memory-care facilities across Minneapolis and St. Paul. Multi-dose packaging (SureMed blister cards), weekly med-reviews with on-site nurses, 24/7 on-call pharmacist for facility staff.

What makes us different

A real compounding lab.
Not a mail-order promise.

Most prescriptions are manufactured, and that's fine — Lipitor is Lipitor. But roughly 8% of what a primary-care office prescribes is something a patient can't swallow, can't tolerate, or simply doesn't exist commercially. For those 8%, you need a pharmacy with an actual compounding lab and compounding-trained pharmacists. That's us. Our lab occupies the back 900 sq ft of our Minneapolis location and is inspected annually by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy and the PCAB (Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board). We've held continuous PCAB accreditation since 2009.

We compound routinely in six categories: (1) pediatric — flavored suspensions, alternative dosage forms for children who can't swallow tablets; (2) hormone replacement — bioidentical HRT creams, troches, capsules; (3) veterinary — especially for cats, exotics, and reptiles where commercial dosing is wrong; (4) dermatology — custom topicals for rosacea, acne, scarring; (5) pain — transdermal creams as oral-opioid alternatives; (6) hospice and palliative care.

  • ✓ PCAB-accredited · continuously since 2009
  • ✓ USP <795> non-sterile + USP <797> sterile certified
  • ✓ 4,200+ compounds a year · avg 38 per business day
  • ✓ Same-day turnaround on most non-sterile formulations
  • ✓ We work directly with your prescriber on formulation

What our patients say

five-star Google reviews.

★★★★★

"My father is 89 years old and on eleven medications. Walgreens kept telling him his insurance didn't cover his blood thinner — Dr. Wetherall spent 45 minutes on the phone with Medicare, found the coverage, and saved him $1,840 a year. Then she drove it to his house on her way home that Friday. Who does that."

"Our cat Milo needs a compounded thyroid suspension and every large pharmacy got it wrong — wrong strength, wrong flavor, expired. Dr. Ng got it right on the first try and has gotten it right every 60 days for six years. Milo is 17 and still complaining loudly about everything, which is the outcome we wanted."

"After my double mastectomy I dreaded the fitting for mastectomy forms — it felt like one more indignity. Priya spent an hour with me in a private room and made the entire thing feel dignified. The forms fit perfectly. My BCBS covered them. I had no idea a pharmacy could do that."

Common questions

What patients ask
at the counter.

How is the cash price at an independent pharmacy?

Often cheaper than you'd guess — and we will always quote cash price up front alongside your insurance copay so you can pick whichever is less. We're part of the RxAdvance purchasing cooperative with 6 other MN independents, which lets us price-match the big chains on the top 200 generic medications. For compounded prescriptions cash pricing is generally 5–15% lower than national compounding chains. Bring any GoodRx or Mark Cuban Cost Plus price and we'll match or beat it on the spot.

Do you take my insurance?

Almost certainly yes. We're in-network with every major Minnesota plan: Blue Cross Blue Shield MN, HealthPartners, Medica, UCare, PreferredOne, Sanford, plus Medicare Part D (all major plans), Medicare Part B (DME), Medical Assistance, MinnesotaCare, TRICARE, VA Community Care. We're in-network with CVS Caremark, Express Scripts, OptumRx, and Cigna national PBMs for mail-order alternatives. Call us with your BIN/PCN/Group and we'll confirm coverage in under 3 minutes.

Can you match mail-order 90-day supplies?

Yes, for most maintenance medications. Under Minnesota's pharmacy-choice law (Minn. Stat. § 62Q.11) your insurer cannot force you to use a mail-order pharmacy, and we can fill 90-day supplies at the same copay. Bring us your current mail-order bottles and we'll coordinate the transition — no gap in therapy. About 280 of our patients have moved their 90-day fills from mail-order to us in the last two years.

I need a compound. How does that work?

Three steps. (1) Your prescriber sends us the prescription — we can contact them if you give us permission; our team calls 40+ prescribers a week to clarify formulations. (2) Dr. Ng reviews the formulation and confirms it's compoundable to your needs; we'll call you if we suggest an alternative. (3) We compound in our lab, usually same-day for non-sterile, 48 hours for sterile. Compound prescriptions cannot be billed through commercial insurance but are often eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement — we provide documentation.

What about delivery? You drive to my house?

Free same-day delivery within 3 miles of our Minneapolis location for patients over 65, for any patient with mobility or transportation challenges, and for any prescription over $150 cash value. Anna (our delivery driver since 2016) delivers between 4 and 6pm Tues/Thurs/Fri. For delivery outside 3 miles we can send USPS priority or FedEx overnight; a small fee applies ($8.50 USPS, $24 FedEx). No prescription is ever left at a door without signature.

Are you really family-owned, or is that marketing?

Genuinely family-owned. Dr. Harold Wetherall opened on E Lake St on 14 March 1978. His daughter Dr. Eleanor bought the business from him in 2018 when he retired at 72; he still works the counter on Tuesdays. Dr. Benjamin Ng bought in as equal partner in 2021 after 8 years as staff pharmacist. We are not owned by a hedge fund, a PBM, a private-equity roll-up, or CVS Health. The business is 100% owned by the two pharmacists working here. You can confirm our ownership via the Minnesota Secretary of State (File #10844-7).
